Ivens Machado

Ivens Machado’s work makes use of materials sourced from civil construction. Sculpture and architecture enter into symbiosis, though not without conflict. The artist assimilates the legacy of European constructive movements, placing them in dialogue with Brazilian vernacular architecture to highlight the asymmetries that define the globalized world. Traditional materials from the history of sculpture, as well as qualities like polish, are set aside in favor of commonplace elements and rough finishes, akin to those found in the simplest residential constructions.
