CONSTRUCTION IN THE WIND

In an essay on Mira Schendel, Nuno Ramos associates the artist's work with what he calls a “construction in the wind.” Taking this paradoxical phrase as its guiding image, the group exhibition unfolds across three thematic axes: Minimal Gestures, Activating the Void, and Rarefied Landscapes. While key aspects of Schendel’s practice serve as the exhibition’s central compass, the way Leonilson approached emptiness also emerges as a significant point of departure. In a gesture that moves against the pristine austerity traditionally associated with the white monochrome in art history, the artist introduced the dimension of desire through inscriptions imbued with poetic intensity.

By foregrounding emptiness, that which exists at the threshold of visibility, and the realm of desire, the exhibition seeks to establish a counterweight to the pervasive forces that shape attention, the experience of time, and subjectivity today.
