Tunga addresses fundamental issues in contemporary art, particularly the dialogue with the trends and paths that emerged from the late 1960s. The artist's work is marked by the object, performance, and installation as a break with traditional media and a search for estrangement in the artistic experience.
Without establishing boundaries between production media, Tunga refers to some of his works as "instaurações" (installations): a fusion of actions (performance, happening) and artistic installations. These are objects, images, videos, sculptures, and installations that carry the mark of the performance that originated them, yet are still considered finished works. The similarities and contradictions between what is representation and what is reality, as well as their implications in language, form the poetic foundation of Tunga's work.
Internationally recognized, Tunga has held exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) and the Louvre pyramid in Paris. He also had a retrospective of his work presented at the 31st São Paulo Biennial.
