SP—Arte 2025

In an essay published in 1971, the American art historian Linda Nochlin posed the question, “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?”, reflecting on the institutional barriers and oppressive social structures that have prevented women from achieving success in the arts.

O stand da FLEXA na SP-Arte 2025 costura essa história de grandes artistas mulheres, partindo de nomes como Ione Saldanha, Maria Leontina e Tomie Ohtake, que nasceram na década de 1910 e entraram para o meio de arte já cercada de referências femininas. E chegamos às gerações mais recentes, com Tadáskía – que amplia o debate de gênero para outras questões sociais por ser uma artista negra, trans e de origem periférica – e Melissa de Oliveira – a mais jovem entre as selecionadas.

In keeping with FLEXA’s broad geographic outlook, the selection brings together international artists in dialogue with Brazilian art, including the Chilean Cecilia Vicuña, the South African Marlene Dumas, the Argentine Marta Minujín, the American Nan Goldin, and the Japanese Yayoi Kusama. The presentation also includes immigrant artists who played a pivotal role in the development of Brazilian art, such as the Italian-born Anna Maria Maiolino and the Swiss-born Mira Schendel.
